BAL GOKULAM- Durga Temple

What is Bal Gokulam?

Bal Gokulam is a place for children to come together, learn practice Hindu culture and heritage, understand Bharat (India) and make good friends with similar interest and background. There is no admission fee or admission criteria. All are welcome to participate.

Gokulam is the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood days. Gokulam is the place where talents, mischiefs, strength and also the divinity of Krishna blossomed. People realized that he was not an ordinary boy, but an incarnation of God. "Bal" means Child. Bal Gokulam is the place for the children to enjoy together and also discover their potentialities and blossom it to the fullest extent.  

Volunteers from VHPA and Durga Temple run Bal Gokulam for the children. Durga temple also offers beginner level Hindi classes.  

Regular activities in the Bal Gokulam 

Bal Gokulam typically runs for an hour and 15 minutes. The children will do some exercises and Yoga, followed by Games. Playing together builds the friendship, team spirit and also an enjoyable atmosphere to learn. We have Bhajans and group songs, followed by the story. Stories are selected from Ramayan, Mahabharat, lives of great personalities, Pancha Tantra and other moral stories. The purpose of all these activities is

  1. To teach children to respect good health, physical strength and balance
  2. To understand, appreciate and practice Hindu ways of life.
  3. To develop confidence and pride in their cultural identity.
  4. To develop social awareness and make them active contributions to the society.
  5. To provide good friends with similar interest.

Special Events

Hindu Heritage Youth Camp: Every summer, we have a camp for children. This is once-a-year never miss event for children.

Celebrating Festivals: All the families will celebrate various Hindu festivals together. Children will get to present various cultural items in these programs.
